Our Bureau

Hyderabad , April 21

ABOUT 80 district collectors drawn from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Orissa and Chhattisgarh, will meet at the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), here to explore ways of improving the delivery of services to citizens.

The two-day meeting beginning on Friday will address issues related to district governance. It hopes to evolve a plan of action that can be implemented back home in the districts.

The workshop, sponsored by the Union Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances will have two themes — urban renewal issues covering infrastructure and habitat; governance and finance and delivery of citizen services. The second theme would be integration of rural development at district level.

For this district level governance and coordination, setting minimum standards of service delivery in rural areas, infrastructure development for employment generation, poverty eradication etc., would be covered.

According to a press release from ASCI, the workshop would be inaugurated by the Planning Commission Member, Mr B.N. Yugandhar. Mr P.I. Suvarthan, Additional Secretary to the Government of India, and Dr S.K. Rao, Director General of ASCI would also speak.
