Sonus centre in Bangalore

THE US-based Sonus Networks, a provider of voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) infrastructure, has set up a software development and regional support centre in Bangalore.

Sonus Networks India Pvt Ltd will focus on developing VoIP applications, specifically software design and quality assurance services. Mr Michael Eastep, Vice-President, Business Operations, said the company plans to hire about 100 people in Bangalore over two years. "We expect to hire about 60 people in the first year, of which some 40 will be deployed for software development, and the rest to provide implementation supportto the customers," he said. However, Mr Eastep declined to comment on the investments made in the centre.

The India centre is also expected to customise applications for customers in the Asia Pacific region, where the company has seen some major wins, especially in the Japanese market, said Mr Simon Naylor, Vice-President, Asia-Pacific.
