THE Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, is chalking out a detailed strategy to spread its wings to reach out to major cities across the country.

Currently at the drawing board stage, the strategy once approved by its Senate would enable the Institute to set up distance learning centres at six major cities in the initial phase.

These cities include Hyderabad, Bangalore, Guwahati, Ranchi, Patna and Indore, according to Prof. Kalyan Chakravarti, Dean of Vinod Gupta School of Management at IIT Kharagpur.

Addressing newspersons here on Friday, Prof. Chakravarti said the perspective strategy, which also includes setting up of a physical outreach campus at Kolkata, would be implemented during 2008-11.
