Singapore Airlines to hike fuel surcharge

Our Bureau

New Delhi , April 22

SINGAPORE Airlines (SIA) has announced an increase of $8 per sector on the fuel surcharge that is being charged on long-distance flights operated by it from May 6.

In a statement, the airline has said that from May 6 a passenger will be charged a fuel surcharge of $30 per long-haul flight instead of the existing fuel surcharge of $22.

The move will impact flights operated by the airline from all seven Indian cities.

While a passenger travelling from India to Singapore and back would be charged an additional $16, those travelling onwards and returning would have to pay more depending on the number of sectors travelled.

The airline has said that the rising cost of jet fuel has forced SIA to increase fuel surcharge.

However, the airline is to maintain the surcharge at the $10 level for flights between Singapore and Bandar Seri Begawan, Bangkok, Manila, Penang, Jakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
