Airport fire service drill

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram International Airport Fire service staged a series of drills involving mock crisis situations in a display of the level of preparedness in being able to cope with real-life contingencies.

A conflagration at the airport and crash of an aircraft were two such events demonstrated during the valedictory function of the Fire Services Week held here on Friday. These were followed up by the rescue effort mounted by the services.

A `firemen rescue act' was also demonstrated in which the service personnel carried an injured person on his shoulders and made his way from the first floor and into the ground floor to a waiting ambulance. The Airport Director, Mr Narinder Kaushal, was among those who took part in the show. It came to an end with "target hit" displayed by three crash fire tenders.
