Hyderabad , April 23 WOCKHARDT Hospitals has announced its entry into Andhra Pradesh with a long-term association with the Hyderabad-based Kamineni Group engaged in medical education and healthcare services. Under this alliance, Wockhardt would establish two world-class heart hospitals in the city, which would be operational in less than 100 days. This would be followed by the introduction of other specialities such as orthopaedics, neurology and minimal access surgery, the Wockhardt Group Chairman, Mr Habil F. Khorakiwala, told newspersons here on Saturday. While the facility at Abids here would be called Kamineni-Wockhardt Hospital, the second one in the existing premises of Kamineni Hospitals at LB Nagar would be called Wockhardt Heart Hospital. According to Mr Khorakiwala, the Wockhardt-Kamineni combine would provide 300 beds for super speciality treatment in Hyderabad. "As a national hospital chain, we are delighted to enter Hyderabad, a healthcare city with renowned institutions like the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences. We welcome this opportunity to enrich Hyderabad's reputation as a healthcare destination with our experience of over one-and-a-half decades in cardiology and cardiac surgery. Wockhardt Hospitals has a team of clinicians who have made pioneering global contributions to this speciality," Mr Khorakiwala said. However, he declined to divulge the details of investments being pumped in by Wockhardt into the Hyderabad facilities and the revenue sharing arrangement with Kamineni Hospitals. He said Wockhardt found it advantageous to enter into alliance with Kamineni for managing its hospital facilities at Hyderabad instead of setting up Greenfield facilities. It currently runs a cluster of super speciality hospitals in Mumbai dedicated to cardiology, neurology, orthopaedics, ophthalmology and minimal access surgery. It also runs heart hospitals in Bangalore, Mumbai and Nagpur and a super speciality kidney hospital in Kolkata. According to Mr Khorakiwala, Hyderabad was among the leading Indian cities with a high prevalence of coronary heart disease and diabetes, underlining the need for the establishment of high-end heart hospitals. "The two heart hospitals of Wockhardt at Hyderabad will be linked to all other heart hospitals in the Wockhardt Group, which will share their knowledge and expertise to give heart patients in the city the advantage of their collective experience," he said. Further, Mr Khorakiwala said Wockhardt brings to Hyderabad the rich medical expertise from its exclusive association with Harvard Medical International, the global arm of Harvard Medical School. The association provides Wockhardt access to the latest clinical protocols, innovations and patient care practices from 17 prestigious Harvard-affiliated hospitals in the US including Massachusetts General Hospital, Women's Hospital and Beth Israel Hospital.
