Announcements Logistics - Airlines Jet's Chennai-KL flight launch delayed Ashwini Phadnis
New Delhi , April 23 THERE is to be a slight delay in Jet Airways starting its daily flight on the Chennai-Kuala Lumpur sector with the airline pushing back the launch to the second half of May from the original schedule of May 5. The airlines' Chief Operating Officer, Mr Peter Luethi, told Business Line that the new date for the start of the service would be decided during the forthcoming week. "There has been a short delay due to the late delivery of a new Boeing 737-800 aircraft in Seattle. That has forced us to move back the launch date of the new flight," Mr Luethi said. The airline has already received one new Boeing 737-800 aircraft international version that is being deployed on the newly launched Mumbai-Singapore route, while a second similar aircraft is to be used on the Chennai-Kuala Lumpur sector. The airplanes have seen several changes including a special seat configuration that allows passengers in the business class to have the same amount of space that is available on bigger aircraft. Meanwhile, Air Sahara, which is to begin operations to both Singapore and Kuala Lumpur in early May, is also to have dedicated aircraft for its international operations. The airlines' Executive Vice-President, Mr Alok Sharma, said Air Sahara was fine-tuning its product to offer a truly world-class experience to passengers. Incidentally, both the airlines are reporting heavy demand for tickets to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. "The passenger loads on the Singapore flight are coming up to our expectation. We are very pleased with the load which is in excess of 70 per cent," Mr Luethi said. Similarly, Air Sahara had sold almost 4,000 tickets to Singapore at the launch return fare level of Rs 10,000, Mr Sharma adding that passengers were seeking more tickets. The airline's Singapore flight is to be operated by a Boeing 737-800 aircraft that will have 12 seats in the business class and 156 seats in the economy class. The Kuala Lumpur flight is to be operated by a Boeing 737-700 aircraft that will have 12 seats in the business class and 114 seats in the economy class.
