Eradicating poverty

This is with reference to that article "Our generation can choose to end extreme poverty by 2025" (Business Line, April 23). The Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, is reported to have said that the aim of the government was to end extreme poverty by 2015.

But why should we wait so long?

For instance, starvation deaths, children dying due to malnutrition and disease etc are all preventable.

It all depends on whether we have the will to do so. If someone in power makes it their mission to eradicate extreme poverty, the government and the people will definitely come forward with their support.

But the time to start is now.
