Fishermen demand Kerosene subsidy

Our Bureau

MANGALORE: Fishermen from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts of Karnataka, under the aegis of National Fishermen's Forum (NFF), will take part in a strike in front of the Parliament complex in New Delhi on April 25.

An NFF release said here that the forum is seeking the implementation of the assurances of the former Prime Minister, Mr A.B. Vajpayee, on granting a subsidy of Rs 2 per litre of kerosene used in the country boats.

The release demanded that road development cess on diesel, used by fishermen for their mechanised boats, be removed. The Government should increase its share in relief amount provided to fishermen. Fishermen will urge the Government to implement many such measures, the release added.
