WAVES-THE SCHOOL, a Hyderabad-based school that offers activities-based learning with the help of latest technologies, has announced the launch of Waves-Roboclub, a robotics club for children aged above seven years.

Addressing newspersons here on Sunday, its Director, Mr Bijjala Radhakrishna, said a five-day robotics workshop was being organised in association with the Singapore-based 12Brains to kick off the Waves-Roboclub.

"This course will introduce kids to the wonderful world of robotics. It will be five days of fun and exhilarating learning for kids, who form teams to solve challenges by building and programming robots," he said.

The kinds would have hands-on experience using imported robotics kits under the guidance of experience faculty visiting from overseas exclusively for this event, he said.

Apart from organising exciting shows by the faculty about the science of robotics, the school would also organise competitions for kids by forming them into teams.

After the conclusion of the five-day course, students would be offered a free registration into the Waves-Roboclub to help them continue their robotic explorations, Mr Radhakrishna said. Elaborating on the school's choice on robotics, he said, "Robotics is a relatively new science that throws up endless possibilities and involves fine motor skills, creative and logical thinking, problem solving, applying principles of science and mathematics. In short, it is a multi-discipline programme that challenges the mind and creativity. Today's child is extremely intelligent and they need activities that challenge their intellectual capacities to keep them occupied and productive in their studies."

The aim behind setting up of a permanent Robotics Club was to keep alive and take forward the children's interest in robotics.

Apart from organising visiting faculty from abroad in regular intervals to facilitate exchange of ideas and widen the horizons of its members, the Waves-Roboclub also proposes to conduct robotics competitions both at national and international levels.

On the objectives of the school, Mr Radhakrishna said the main objective was to encourage kids to be themselves by nurturing their inquisitiveness and steering them gently towards their academic goals through inspiration and motivation.

"The kids will be encouraged to apply their minds freely and to experiment, rather than get used to a regimented process of education," he said.
