Naidu visits chilli yard

Our Bureau

GUNTUR: Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, former Chief Minister and Telugu Desam leader, visited the chilli market yard here on Monday and demanded that the State Markfed (marketing federation) procure the crop at Rs 2,700 a quintal to rescue the farmers.

He later visited the fasting Telugu Desam leader, Ms N. Rajakumari, opposite the collectorate. Ms Rajakumari has been on hunger strike since Friday, demanding that the Markfed pay a price of Rs 3,000 per quintal of chilli.

Currently, Markfed is procuring chilli at Rs. 2,300 a quintal.

Mr Naidu said the Congress Government was not responsive to the needs of farmers, especially chilli farmers, and it was merely paying them lip service.
