Nursing Council directive

HYDERABAD: The Nursing Council of India has advised the State Government not to issue essentiality certificates from the academic year 2006-07.

Participating in a review meeting here, Dr D Sambasiva Rao, Secretary (Health, Government of Andhra Pradesh), said the council had categorically stated that it would not allow new nursing colleges to come up.

Based on this observation, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister, directed the officials to comply with the council advice and not to issue essentiality certificates to nursing schools hereafter.

He also wanted the officials to consider applications from hospital managements for setting up nursing colleges in future.

He also directed the officials to make the 62 nursing schools and 51 nursing colleges undergo a check by the Monitoring Committee headed by Mr Justice Bhaskar Rao. This was to check whether the new schools and colleges conformed to the norms prescribed by the council.
