Our Bureau

Hyderabad , April 26

THE Andhra Pradesh Circle of the Department of Posts (DoP) has exceeded the revenue target for the year 2004-05, by earning Rs 96.84 crore, against Rs 94 crore that was set.

The growth in earnings is in fact 60.26 per cent higher than that recorded in the financial year 2003-04, when the Circle had a turnover of just Rs 36.4 crore, according to Mr T.S. Govindarajan, Chief Postmaster General. The State circle had set up a separate Business Development Directorate, in line with the DoP's decision taken in 1996. Accordingly, it has developed value-added products, such as e-post, express parcel post, greeting post, business post and retail post.

The DoP sets a separate revenue target for each Postal Circle in the country.

The AP Circle has also tried some innovative services such as marketing pastry, Tirupathi laddus, Haleem during Ramzan and others in Hyderabad.
