New Delhi , April 26

THE Petroleum Minister, Mr Mani Shankar Aiyar, will leave for Pakistan in May on an official visit to boost bilateral energy ties including the $4.16-billion Iran-India gas pipeline project.

"I am leaving for Islamabad on May 25. Bilateral talks are scheduled for May 26-27," he told newspersons. He is expected to return on May 30.

During the trip, the Minister hopes to visit the Sui gas field. He is also likely to discuss diesel and petrochemical exports to Pakistan and import of natural gas from Iran through a 2,600-km pipeline, 760 km of which is to pass through Pakistan.

"I also plan to visit Baluchistan and Karachi to attend conferences."

Further, in the deliberations with his Pakistani counterpart, Mr Aiyar said that he would take up the issue of removing diesel from the negative list of importable items from India.
