He said that the change in the aviation policy was a welcome one as it has seen a number of new international and domestic airlines operating in India. The next change should come in the area of airport infrastructure. Both Delhi and Mumbai airports have not been expanded for a long time, he said.

Mr Busaidy said that India is an important market for the airline. He said that the airline's policy was to focus on the local markets, like the Gulf region, India, and East Africa.

He told reporters that Oman Air has increased its seat capacity by 50 per cent and added two more destinations - Delhi and Hyderabad - to its network. The new services will commence on June 1.

Currently, the airline operates 10 flights to Mumbai, daily to Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram, five flights to Kochi, three flights to Hyderabad and four flights to Delhi.

The airline has increased its services to Mumbai and Kochi by two flights and is also interested in flying to Kozhikode, Tiruchi and Bangalore, he said.
