NGO in pact with ICICI Lombard for health insurance plan

SRI Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP), a Dakshina Kannada-based non-governmental organisation, has entered into an agreement with ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Ltd for implementing the health hospitalisation insurance programme - `Sampoorna Suraksha' - for 2005-06.

Nearly 73,000 families in the coastal Karnataka districts have joined the programme by paying a premium of Rs 2.68 crore. SKDRDP has reinsured the hospitalisation reimbursement insurance with ICICI Lombard by paying a premium of Rs 1.64 crore.

SKDRDP has tied up with 42 hospitals in the coastal districts for providing cashless treatment facilities to the policyholders of Sampoorna Suraksha programme.

Sampoorna Suraksha, which was launched during 2004-05, covers reimbursement of hospitalisation expenses of all the insured families up to Rs 25,000.

Death compensation, domiciliary treatment for family stakeholder and accident compensation for the earning member of the family are also covered under the programme. Reimbursement of maternity expenses within the family, compensation for calamities, and death of the assets of livelihood such as cows, buffaloes and bullocks are also compensated.

During 2004-05, nearly 54,000 families joined the programme by paying a premium of Rs 1.55 crore.

As many as 10,359 cases amounting to Rs 3.10 crore were compensated under this programme.

In a statement here, the SKDRDP Executive Director, Dr L.H. Manjunath, said that the programme received bidding from the leading general insurance companies of the country.

The management took the decision to tie up with ICICI Lombard owing to competitive bidding and the assurance of efficient service.
