Hyderabad , April 29

MICROSOFT Corporation India today unveiled its 2005-06 training calendar for teachers under Project Shiksha and announced an inter-school ICT competition in the project-trained schools.

Speaking after launching the new programmes, the Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education, Ms Nedurumalli Rajyalakshmi, said the State was focussing on taking the benefits of IT to different sections of society.

She also felicitated winners of the Innovative Teachers awards from the State.

Microsoft set up an IT Academy in Hyderabad, following a MoU a couple of years ago with the State Government. Project Shiksha was launched in January 2003 and aims to train over 35,000 teachers in five years.

Microsoft signed MoU's with five States for the Project Shiksha. In addition to Andhra Pradesh, the others are Uttaranchal, Karnataka, West Bengal and Maharashtra. It has, so far, trained 27,000 teachers.

Mr Nandu Pradhan, Director-Public Sector of Microsoft India, said a group of innovative teachers selected would be taken to the corporations headquarters in Redmond, US. Project Shiksha has a funding of approximately $ 20 million.
