Power Transmission line: CERC verdict on REL's application soon Our Bureau
New Delhi , April 30 THE Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) is expected to give a verdict on Reliance Energy's application for laying transmission lines in Western India. The CERC Chairman, Mr A.K. Basu, said he was hopeful of a decision on the application by next month. The application had led to a row between Reliance Energy Ltd and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), with both companies claiming they have the right to lay transmission lines in Western India. The CERC has asked the Government to verify PGCIL's claim that it had prior sanction to carry out transmission in Western India, Mr Basu said at a press conference. It has also asked the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) for its comments on the same. Reliance Energy's application for the Western Region-II project envisages laying 13 new transmission lines and 21 sub-stations. PGCIL has claimed that it has the right to undertake work on the scheme and has invited bids for joint-venture participation from private players. CERC had, last month, asked the Governments of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra to clarify their position on a petition by Reliance Energy seeking licences to lay the transmission lines. Earlier this week, the western region electricity boards had said they favoured PGCIL executing work on the lines required on a priority basis. Mr Basu said the commission has asked the CEA to prioritise work on the basis of urgency. The next date for hearing the case has been fixed on May 26.
