Fair demand at Kochi tea auction

, THERE was 11,62,000 kg of dust tea on offer at the recent Kochi Tea Auction, which generated a fair general demand. CTC tea varieties were quoted lower by Rs 2 to 4 and sometimes even more. Orthodox high-grown varieties remained steady to easier, while medium and secondaries also eased at the auction.

The best CTC varieties were quoted Rs 55-66, medium CTC varieties Rs 50-53, and below medium at Rs 32-40.

High-grown BOPD varieties were quoted at Rs 85-127, medium BOPD commanded Rs 38-40 and secondaries at Rs 30-35.

There was 5,06,000 kg of leaf tea on offer at the auction, which generated fair general demand. Orthodox high-grown variety were quoted Rs 2-3 lower, well made CTC medium remained steady, while general CTC varieties witnessed lower demand and eased by Rs 2.

Exporters were very selective on orthodox grades.

Brokens of best Nilgiri varieties commanded a price of Rs 53-78, while fannings were quoted at Rs 60-88.

Medium orthodox brokens were quoted at Rs 42-60 while fannings commanded Rs 40-42. Brokens of best CTC leaf were quoted at Rs 48-51 while fannings commanded Rs 48-51. Medium CTC leaf brokens were at Rs 43-46 and fannings at Rs 43-45.

Among the top leaf varieties, Havukal BOPF was quoted at Rs 108, Devashola GFOP at Rs 100, Kodanad BOPF at Rs 95 and Havukal FBOP at Rs 82.

Among the dust varieties, the Kodanad BOPD dust variety was quoted the highest at Rs 127, Pasuparai SFD at Rs 89, Pasuparai SRD at Rs 86 and Parkside BOPD at Rs 85.
