THE State Government is firm on conducting early elections to the co-operative bodies. Indicating this, the State Minister for Cooperation, Mr Kanna Lakshminarayana, said several cooperatives in the State suffered due to the lack of good leadership and dishonest officials.

The State Government would give utmost importance to need-based training for cooperatives, leadership issues and skill upgradation, he said at a function commemorating the centenary celebrations of the Indian Cooperative Movement at the Institute of Cooperative Management here.

Mr Lakshminarayana stressed on good governance and professionalism for promoting the cooperative movement in the State. Earlier, inaugurating the celebrations, the State Labour Minister, Mr G. Vinod, said sincerity, transparency and accountability are needed to strengthen cooperatives.

The President of the National Cooperative Union of India, Dr S.S. Sisodia, in his address asked the co-operators to work for the cause of the rural poor. About 350 delegates from various cooperative institutions and self help groups (SHGs) took part.
