AP to formulate health mission

Hyderabad , May 2

THE Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has directed the Medical and Health Department to formulate a comprehensive State Health Mission.

The Chief Minister, while reviewing the functioning of the Medical and Health Department, found that the formulation of a Health Mission is the need of the hour to improve the delivery of medical care to the public.

Dr Reddy said that the proposed Health Mission should ensure the involvement of the community. This should be in the form of committees; training of youth in villages ; spread of medical awareness and enhancement of support from the UK Department for International Development for medical reforms. It should reflect a unified health vision integrating the roles of all relevant departments, he said.

On most of the doctors recruited for government services preferring to be posted in the cities, the Chief Minister suggested that while issuing notification for recruitment, the place of posting must also be mentioned.

Drafting the services of private specialists for conducting critical surgeries in government hospitals could also considered.
