Thiruvananthapuram , May 3

ENTERPRISES Kerala 2005, a trade fair and conference for small and medium businesses, will begin in the city on May 4. The five-day event will be held at the Sooryakanthi exhibition ground within the premises of the Kanakakunnu Palace in the city.

Announcing this at a press conference in the city, Mr P. Ganesh, Chairman, Enterprises Kerala 2005, said the event is intended to highlight the abilities of Kerala's small and medium enterprises, especially in areas such as manufacturing.

"Through this event we want to communicate to the world that Kerala is a place where business is happening, particularly in the small and medium enterprises (SME) sector," he declared.

In keeping with this objective, the thrust area of Enterprises Kerala 2005 will be vendor development. Several large companies from across the country are expected to participate in the event, Mr Ganesh said.

The idea is to use the event to create an opportunity for SMEs in Kerala to interact with these large companies and, perhaps, even do business with them, he explained.

According to the event's organisers, two seminars are being organised as part of Enterprises Kerala 2005. The theme of the first seminar is `entrepreneur development from campuses', while the second seminar will be on `value-added tax'.

The event, which is held every two years, will be open to business visitors from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on all days, while the public can visit the exhibition between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. every day. Organised by the Department of Industries, Government of Kerala and the Kerala State Small Industries Association (KSSIA), Enterprises Kerala 2005 will be inaugurated by the State's Industries Minister Mr V.K. Ebrahim Kunju.
