Cement majors report rise in April despatches

THE cement majors have reported varied percentage increases in despatches for April, 2005, as compared to their corresponding year-ago despatch records.

Despatches at Associated Cement Companies amounted to 15.71 lakh tonnes, 13.4 per cent higher than the year ago figure of 13.85 lt. Production rose 6.5 per cent to 15.34 lt (14.4 lt).

Ambuja Cement reported a 4 per cent increase in despatches at 11.45 lt (10.99 lt).

The company reported a 2 per cent increase in production, at 11.3 lt (11.05 lt).

Its subsidiary Ambuja Cement Eastern Ltd reported a 13 per cent decrease in despatches, which amounted to 1.76 lt and a 20 per cent reduction in production at 1.69 lt.

The Aditya Birla group cement despatches rose by 9.82 per cent, to 24.77 lt. Of this Grasim Industries' cement despatches stood at 11.86 lt and UltraTech's at 12.9 lt. Total clinker despatches from the group stood at 1.44 lt.

The group's cement production for the month rose 8.79 per cent at 24.67 lt.

Grasim's production was 12.01 lt while UltraTech's was 12.66 lt.
