Telecommunications BSNL plans to double mobile capacity Our Correspondent
Madurai , May 4 BHARAT Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is all set to become a market leader in mobile service in the Tamil Nadu Circle with the proposed doubling of its equipped capacity by June, which is around nine lakh at present, according to the General Manager (Madurai), Mr M.K. Sudarsanam. At present, there are two mobile phone switches installed at Tiruchi and Salem, whose equipped capacity got exhausted last month, forcing stoppage of issue of new pre-paid cards to avoid traffic congestion. In Madurai - Secondary Switching Area alone, more than 3,000 people have been wait-listed. To enhance the equipped capacity, installation of three new switches are under way A short messaging service centre is also coming up in Madurai. 200 new base tower stations are under construction with 101 of them coming up in Madurai SSA.
