Rubber prices increase on moderate buys

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , May 5

MODERATE buying from various consuming sectors enhanced the spot rubber prices further on Thursday.

Covering purchases from the domestic futures market against delivery for the spot month May and fresh buying from purchase agents supported the trend, sources said.

The arrivals declined again widening the gap between the demand and supply positions. ISNR 20 and latex remained comparatively inactive while RSS 4 improved to Rs 59.75 from Rs 59.50 a kg at Kottayam and Rs 60 from Rs 59.75 at Kochi.

The NMCE futures turned better with May contract quoting at Rs 60.05 (59.69), June Rs 61.85 (61.50), July Rs 62.75 (62.34) and August contract at Rs 61.50 (61.24) per kg for RSS 4.

The market exhibited a positive mood with better volumes though the major overseas markets were on holidays.

The physical market rates per kg were as follows: RSS-4: 59.75 (59.50); RSS-5: 58.75 (58.50); ungraded: 58.50 (58.25); ISNR 20: 58.25 (58); and latex 60%: 39.50 (39.50).
