Lalu's lore

This refers to the article `The charm of Lalu' (Business Line, May 5) which talks how the Railway Minister always manages to hit headlines.

That "he has been continuously in the news" is not surprising. For nobody in the Cabinet can excel him in his role as comic genius or in his ability to generate, at will, heavily accented bon mots such as `dephelummen' (development).

Not long ago, he was an instant success in Pakistan, becoming the darling of the masses, when he went there as part of the Indian parliamentary delegation.

If the Railway ministry does not suit his genius he can well be appointed as India's `Ambassador Extraordinary' with cabinet rank. Revisiting a witty remark, an ambassador "is a person who lies abroad for his country".
