Gold Jewellery expo in Chennai on May 20-22

THE Gold Jewellery India International Exhibition (GJIIE), a trade fair on gold jewellery machinery and equipment and allied will be held in Chennai between May 20 and 22, at the Chennai Trade Centre.

Mr L.K.S. Syed Ahamed, President, Madras Jewellery and Diamond Merchants Association, said that this exhibition would give retailers from remote parts of the country access to the latest in design and manufacturing.

Mr K. Shivram, Vice-President, World Gold Council (WGC), said that the size of the industry in India was about Rs 60,000 crore and was largely in the unorganised sector.

He said that though there is a large consumption of gold in the country, in exports, India was lagging behind. This exhibition will give the necessary fillip to the industry.

Mr Uday Kumar Vummidi, Chairman, GJIIE 2005, said that the exhibition would enable the jewellers and other business involved in the gold trade to interact with manufacturers, wholesalers, equipment and accessory makers.
