Foreign Banks ABN-Amro goes to villages via micro-financing L.N. Revathy
Tirupur , May 5 ABN-Amro Bank has managed to tap rural potential despite its limited presence in branch network, according to Mr Romesh Sobti, Country Representative. Mr Sobti was in Tirupur in connection with the inauguration of its first branch in this export cluster. Briefing presspersons, he said the bank had, over the last 16 months, extended micro-finance support to about 86,000 women in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. "Being a foreign bank, we have certain constraints in the rapid expansion of our branch network. But, in our bid to help the rural populace, particularly women, we chalked out a plan with 12 micro-finance institutions, which identify the group for assistance," he said.
