Mumbai , May 6

HENKEL India Ltd on Friday announced that it had made a foray into the home-use haircolourant segment with two brands — Schwarzkopf "Silkience" and Schwarzkopf "Palette."

This launch should help the company with a growth of 12 per cent in its topline.

The company quoting A C Neilsen estimates said the hair dyes and colourants category in India is worth Rs 270 crore. Of this, the hair colourant segment is around Rs 84.5 crore and is growing at over 20 per cent annually.

Schwarzkopf "Silkience" is offered in eight shades - five basic colours (Black, Dark Brown, Burgundy, Medium Brown, Natural Brown) and three fashion colours (Wild Auburn, Violet Brown, Golden Chocolate).

Schwarzkopf "Palette" is available in six shades — Natural Black, Dark Brown, Medium Brown, Light Brown, Dark Chestnut and Burgundy.

These brands have been developed by the R&D of Schwarzkopf and Henkel, Hamburg, for the Asian consumer.

"The launch of hair colourants will give us an entry into this fast growing segment and will also help us introduce a range of value-added hair products in areas such as conditioning, styling etc. in the next few years," said Mr A. Satishkumar, Managing Director, Henkel India. Henkel is already present in India in the professional hair business through its Schwarzkopf Professional business division.

Henkel plans to support the launch with a multi-media campaign and a direct consumer contact campaign with a focus on in-store beauty advisory service.

Schwarzkopf Silkience and Schwarzkopf Palette priced at Rs 399/- and Rs 99/- will be available at all leading outlets across the top 20 cities in the country.
