Information Technology SBI proposes to set up more ATMs at Madurai Our Correspondent
Madurai , May 6 THE Madurai Module of SBI plans to give thrust to an increase in the number of ATMs along with the issue of more credit cards and services through ATMs during 2005-06. It also plans to aggressively pursue the `School Plus' scheme, under which purchase of computers for schools and colleges would be facilitated in a big way, according to Mr N. Sadasivam, Deputy General Manager of Madurai Module. Speaking to Business Line, he said that in agriculture, financing of tractors would be encouraged. Outlining the activities planned for 2005-06, he said that the number of ATMs in the module would be increased. Currently, there are 60 ATMs, with Madurai accounting for 14 of them. The average hits/use per ATM has been very high, at 260, he added. Along with this, a thrust would be given to distribution of more SBI credit cards that could also be used as debit cards by the customers. In agriculture, the bank proposes to raise the level of financing of tractors since the use of tractors is very low in the region compared to Tiruchi and other places. A tie-up with the Mahindra group and company dealers is under arrangement for the purpose. The bank is also considering encouragement to contract farming. The `School Plus' scheme, initiated last year, would be given a thrust. A meeting has been called at Tirunelveli on May 5-6 to explain the features to schools and colleges in the area. Assistance to building of infrastructure would also be covered.
