Energy security

No country can rely solely on oil for achieving `energy security'. Security lies in conservation measures and in establishing alternative energy sources.

India has the benefit of the recent visits of both the Chinese and Japanese prime ministers. With the Chinese, a cooperative relationship has been established to seek oil and gas worldwide including what is called "equity oil".

Both China and India have been wasteful in the use of oil for a given output in production. The ratio of oil use to GDP, country-wise, shows that China is at the bottom of the chart along with India, with the US following closely. Japan ranks best in the world for this ratio.

It will be beneficial for India to study and implement all the conservation measures adopted by the Japanese.
