SSI Dyers' assn seeks TN Govt intervention for reopening units Our Bureau
Coimbatore , May 8 THE Dyers' Association of Tirupur (DAT) has sought the Government's intervention for reopening of the 44 dyeing units, ordered closed from April 9, following the Court's Orders. In a communication to the Environmental Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu, the DAT President, Mr N. Kandaswamy, said the closure of units had thrown over 5,000 workers out of employment. "The monetary loss in the shape of wages works out to Rs 5 lakh per day. The closure has also affected the daily supply of dyed cloth to the tune of one lakh kg for onward process of hosiery exports. The export activity has, in turn, been affected," he said. Urging the Government to give a directive for reopening these units, he pointed out that some of the closed units that were into direct exports could not honour their export commitments. Besides sustaining huge monetary loss, these units had to face action for damages from the overseas buyers. According to DAT, two of the closed units have since been reopened after submission of the detailed project report (DPR). To avert hardship and loss to the other units, the DAT President has requested that the rest be opened as well as they too had submitted their DPR.
