Rs 1,000-cr plan to develop tourism in Karnataka

THE Karnataka Tourism Minister, Mr D.T. Jayakumar, has said that a Rs 1,000-crore integrated action plan with private sector participation has been formulated for the development of tourism in the State.

The Union Tourism Minister, Ms Renuka Choudhary, has promised to sanction a grant of Rs 200 crore every year in this regard, he said.

Mr Jayakumar was speaking after inaugurating the high-mast lamps at Malpe beach in Udupi district on Saturday.

The Minister said that an intellectuals' forum would be formed in the State to suggest ideas for tourism development. Representatives from the private sector will be included in this forum.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Karnataka Bank Ltd, Mr Anantakrishna, was present on the occasion.
