Informatics eyes global info market

WITH knowledge processing outsourcing emerging as a new opportunity, the Bangalore-based Informatics Ltd plans to position itself as a global player with a revenue target of Rs 500 crore in the next five years.

A leader in the knowledge process management (KPM) that involves dissemination of research and scientific information to specialised institutions, Informatics hopes to garner a chunk of the $200-billion global information market, said Mr N. V. Sathyanarayana, Chairman and Managing Director. Informatics earned a revenue of Rs 40 crore last year.

Mr Sathyanarayana said Informatics would leverage its blend of expertise in content management and technology for hosting to to exploit the huge market with fresh investments over the next three years. It also plans to increase its head count to 1,000 from the current 100.

He said the company would soon decide between IPO and VC funding to raise fresh capital to fund expansion.

Informatics provides local content to a large number of clients licensed by global information companies such as Dialog, Reuters, Dow Jones and Financial Times Online. It also distributes premium contents to corporates and academic organisations such as IIMs and IITs.

He said the company was now looking at the future potential of e-learning as a full fledged product as opposed to the current practice of only cataloguing contents for online learning, and electronic publishing as the future drivers for its ambitions to become a global player.

Informatics has a rich database which has helped it establish in the export market, he said.
