Hyderabad , May 8

THE Andhra Pradesh Government has issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) to a consortium led by Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) for setting up 5,550 Rajiv Internet Village (RAJiv) centres.

While BEL would be the principal partner in the consortium, Radiant Infosytems Pvt Ltd, IBM and BSNL are the other members, Mr R. P. Sisodia, Director of Electronically Deliverable Services (EDS), said in a press release here on Saturday.

The remaining centres will be taken up by a consortium led by TIMES, a non-governmental organisation. ComVision India Pvt Ltd is also a member of the consortium.

The Government plans to implement the RAJiv programme in 8,618 villages. The programme is aimed at making at least one person from each family computer-literate. The centres are expected to be operational by October-end, Mr Sisodia said.
