New Products & Services Esjaypee introduces water generator Our Bureau
Chennai , May 9 NOW, it is water from air. Esjaypee Mercantile & Marketing (P) Ltd, a part of the Rs 150-crore Chennai-based Esjaypee Group, has launched Humidous, a generator that produces water from air. The technology used in the Humidous works on the condensation principle and generates drinking water, Mr Ramesh Rao, Vice-President, Marketing, Esjaypee Mercantile & Marketing (P) Ltd. Mr Mahendra Parmar, Chairman, Esjaypee, said that the process was first developed by NASA for the US Army and was subsequently used commercially. He said that the extraction and purification process takes place in four steps. First, the air drawn for extraction of water is cleaned by an electrostatic air filtering system, which removes particulate matter like dust. After that the water molecules are separated from the filtered air by a temperature controlled condenser coil. The water molecules are then led to a tank. He said the taste, odour and particulate matter of even as small as 0.01 microns are removed by a natural carbon pre-fitter and at the final stage a special filter removes the residual taste, odours and particulates using UV light, ozone and carbon filter before the water is dispensed. Mr Parmar said that an additional benefit was that when the moisture is extracted from the atmospheric air, the surrounding area becomes drier, and people are relieved of the uncomfortable sticky feeling. The machine is priced at Rs 23,850 and is available in different capacities to suit a wide range of requirements. The product is imported from China at present and the company would think of manufacturing it here if the market accepts it, Mr Parmar said. The product would be launched in Mumbai and Kolkata depending on the success in Chennai, he said.
