New Products & Services Onward Novell launches servers, Linux desktops Our Bureau
Kolkata , May 10 ONWARD Novell Software (I) Pvt Ltd today unveiled plans to double the number of its channel partners to 200 in the current calendar year. Speaking to newspersons at a function here to announce the launch of the Novell Open Enterprise Server and the Novell Linux Desktop 9 in India, Mr Ashit J. Panjwani, Marketing Director of Onward Novell Software (I) Pvt Ltd, said the company's "single biggest objective" was to grow the PC and allied applications market in the country. While PC shipments in 2004 have been pegged at four million units, the figure is expected to register a 25-per cent rise in 2005. Mr Panjwani saidthe number of Novell's educational partners would also be augmented by 25 per cent in 2005, from the 110 at present. He said that besides creating awareness among customers and training channel partners on Linux desktop systems, Onward Novell would also engage independent software vendors to develop applications on Linux. Mr Panjwani said Onward Novell's targeted segments include the Government sector, academic institutions, IT & ITES companies, banking & finance entities and select manufacturing segments. He said talks were under way with other stakeholders for bundled offerings. While the Novell Linux desktop solution would be available for Rs 4,000 with documentation and for Rs 2,500 without documentation, similar offerings from competition would cost far more, Mr Panjwani said.
