Software `China, a major contender in software sector' Our Bureau
Visakhapatnam , May 10 CHINA is emerging as a major competitor to India in the software sector and may possibly outshine the country, Mr B. Rama Raju, Managing Director, Satyam Computers, said. He was speaking at a function here on Tuesday after inaugurating the Centre of Excellence set up by the Raghu Engineering College. He said the strides made by China in recent times were "mind-boggling'' and in spite of the obvious advantages enjoyed by "our country, such as its demographic profile and the command over English of the educated Indian middle class, India is still not able to match China". ``Only 15 per cent of the engineering graduates and other graduates emerging out of our institutions are found suitable for the sector. This has to change and we must lay emphasis on excellence in communication and technical skills,'' he said. The most heartening feature, he said, was the demographic profile of the country. "India is the youngest nation in the world at present and we may turn our disadvantage, population, into an advantage with a little planning and effort,'' he said. He expressed hope that the setting up of Satyam Computers centre here would spur the local students to perform better.
