Coast Guard rescues 4-member boat crew

Mangalore , May 11

INDIAN Coast Guard Ship Annie Besant, which is under the operational command of Commander of Coast Guard District Headquarters No 3 at New Mangalore, rescued four members of a fibreglass boat Dolphin - owned by Casino Group of Hotels, Kochi - at 100 km west of Beypore in Kerala in the early hours of May 9.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr Sukhant Choudhary, Commander of Coast Guard District Headquarters No 3, said that the boat was on passage from Androth of Lakshadweep Islands to Kochi when it developed an engine defect on May 8. A merchant ship transiting in the area received the distress call from the boat.

He said Coast Guard's Marine Rescue Coordinating Centre in Mumbai received the signal. Following this, Indian Coast Guard Ship Annie Besant was diverted to search and provide assistance.
