Chennai , May 11 INDIA is a growing market for Delta Airlines and the new flight to Chennai is a part of the expansion plans, according to Ms Paulette Corbin, Senior Vice-President, In-flight Services, Delta Airlines. Speaking to newspersons at the launch of the airline's new flight from Chennai to New York, she said that Delta is the only carrier to provide a direct link between New York and Chennai via Paris. Delta's new flight to its New York John F. Kennedy gateway will connect local passengers to a number of destinations in the US and Europe. The airline will operate a daily direct flight with a Boeing 767-300ER, which has the capacity to carry 204 passengers in economy and business classes. The round trip fare is Rs 24,000 on the Chennai-Paris sector and Rs 44,500 on the Chennai-New York sector. With a flight attendant base in Mumbai, the airline has now employed 80 flight attendants in Chennai to support this new service. Mr Loren Neuenschwander, Managing Director (Atlantic Region), Delta Airlines, said that there was a growth not only in passengers but also in cargo to the US. Air France Cargo would be handling the cargo for these flights. On the agency commission paid to travel agents, Mr Rodney D'Cruz, Manager (Sales), India, said that the airline had not reduced the commission from seven per cent to five per cent. This was an individual decision by Delta and not of the Sky Team.
