Banning Tobacco

This is with reference to the article "Tobacco control law - where is the sting?" (Business Line, May 9).

If the government is serious about abolishing tobacco, it should begin by banning the cultivation of tobacco as in the case of opium.

Legislations for banning tobacco advertisements and smoking in public places, will not serve any purpose, other than increasing corruption among the law enforcers.

Smuggling in of tobacco products should be firmly put down.
