Oilseeds & Edible Oil US soyabean output may dip Our Bureau
Mumbai May 13 SOYABEAN production in the US in 2005-06 is set to decline from the record level (85.5 million tonnes) of the current year, as widely expected. Together with lower carryover stocks, this can potentially have an impact on global oilseeds and vegetable oil prices. In its world agricultural supply and demand estimate, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) projected an 8 per cent fall in North American soyabean output to 78.8 mt, which translates to 2,895 million bushels. As crush and exports expand modestly, ending stocks for 2005-06 is projected at 290 million bushels, 65 million bushels lower than in the previous year. However, supplies are projected to reach 3,253 million bushels, almost unchanged from 2004-05. Global oilseeds production for 2005-06 is projected at 378 mt, down 2.3 mt from 2004-05. If realised, this will be the first year-to-year decline in world total oilseeds production since 1995-96. For the current year, world oilseeds production is revised down to 380.3 mt following a lower harvest of soyabean in Brazil to 53 mt.
