Pension woes

One of the conditions for claiming Reduced Pension under EPS, 1971 is that the member should have a minimum of 10 years' service and should have crossed 50 years of age as on the date of application. This condition is not applicable for differently-abled individuals since they need extra monetary benefits later on in life to cover additional medical costs.

Hence in order that pension benefits are enjoyed by all beneficiaries for at least 10 to 15 years after retirement, the Central Provident Fund Commissioner at Delhi should reduce the retirement age for women and handicapped workers by 10 years and make it 40, and fix the retirement age for men at 45 years.

While administrative charges are collected for maintaining EPFO and EDLI accounts, no such charges are collected for maintaining EPS accounts. A charge could be collected for the same and the amount utilised to meet the above pension benefits.
