IRFT campaign to raise awareness on fair trade concept

Hyderabad , May 16

IN a bid to help producers get more returns, the International Resources for Fair Trade (IRFT) has launched a campaign to increase awareness on the concept of fair trade among producers, mostly artisans, and general public.

IRFT facilitates linkages with international and domestic retailers of products and producers. "This helps in avoiding the middlemen and maximises benefits for the producers," said Ms Bets Vincent, Project Manager (Marketing).

Addressing a press conference here, she said that it was no charity buying things from this kind of alliances. "They stand second to none when it comes to quality. It is all about the customer choices. If you buy, it helps the producer. Moreover, these products are eco-friendly and affordable."

She said Fair Trade Organisations returned up to 40 per cent of the retail price of an item to the producer. Fair trade sales crossed $600-million mark annually world over.
