Education reform

This article "Ending the testing time for students" (Business Line, May 17) is a fine article that draws attention to the need for introducing reform in the education system. The first reform should be to abolish having public exams at multiple standards such as in the eighth, tenth and twelfth.

With a simple reform the gains in time, money, effort and happiness are immense. Common statewise entrance tests could be introduced .

There are tests for employment too. This could make the craze for degrees irrelevant. Through discussions and informed decisions a great reform could be achieved.

The article "Ending the testing times for students(Business Line, May 17) has rightly emphasised the need to do away with the entrance test rigmarole that students today have to go through.

Such a system discourages students and could even result in thier early burn out.

We must take lessons from the US system of higher education that is known for promoting the highest standards of quality.
