Rubber prices ease on scattered selling

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , May 17

SPOT rubber prices eased marginally on scattered selling from traders.

According to sources, the market sentiments were hit by a weak Bangkok closing at the first half of the trading session followed by buyer resistance at higher levels.

RSS 4 lost 25 paise to close at Rs 63.25 against Rs 63.50 a kg on Monday.

Since the arrivals are nominal and the reports from plantations indicate a moderate decline in production due to the current dry spell, heavy selling is not predicted by the market observers.

The futures market opened almost steady and continued to move in a narrow band with a mixed trend on Tuesday.

The June contract traded at Rs 63.37 (Rs 63.30); July at Rs 63.35 (Rs 63.39); August at Rs 62 (Rs 62.07); and September at Rs 60 (Rs 60.60) a kg for RSS 4.

RSS 3 declined to Rs 57.77 from Rs 58.08 while its June futures improved to146.7 yen from 146 yen at TOCOM.

The rubber rates a kg were: RSS-4: Rs 63.25 (Rs 63.50); RSS-5 Rs 61.75 (Rs 62.00); Ungraded Rs 61.25 (Rs 61.50); ISNR 20 Rs 60.50 (Rs 60.50); and latex 60% Rs 41.50 (Rs 41.50).
