Standards & Benchmarks DaimlerChrysler India completes dealer certification Our Bureau
Pune , May 17 LUXURY car manufacturer DaimlerChrysler India Ltd (DCIL) on Tuesday announced that it has completed the ISO9001:2000 certification for its entire dealer network, becoming the first automotive company in the country and the only one in DaimlerChrysler's Asian operations to do so. Only four other companies in DaimlerChrysler's global operations, all of them in Europe, have achieved this status till date. "There have been huge changes in the domestic market in the automotive business and the certification process is in a way a preparation for tougher competition in the market," the DCIL CEO and Managing Director, Mr Hans-Michael Huber, told the press at a ceremony in which the certification was formally handed over to the company by its agency TUV Suddeutschland. Mr Huber said all the 15 authorised dealer showrooms and 18 authorised workshops were issued the certification in 15 months. "Meeting and exceeding customer expectation in products and services has been our philosophy and this certification is another step in that direction," he said. DCIL has been chosen as the pilot market for implementing the parent company's new international dealer standards, a vision sheet verbalising its expectations from dealerships. "What it essentially means is that dealers not meeting the minimum expectations will have to go, while those exceeding it by providing extras will be rewarded with incentives, said Mr Huber. The company has no immediate plans to expand its kitty of products in the market, said Mr Huber. He said that in addition to the models manufactured here, the demand for niche super-premium products is being met through imports. "The demand for niche products does not merit manufacturing here and there is no immediate plan to add to our existing models," he said. DCIL has been conferred the quality award for `Best Mercedes Benz production plant outside Germany and within the DC group' four times since the operation was set up in 1994.
