NMPT steps to arrest iron ore dust pollution

Our Bureau

Mangalore , May 18

THE Chairman of the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), Mr P. Tamilvanan, has said that the port has taken all steps to arrest iron ore dust pollution in the port area.

He was delivering a lecture on `Public relations in public enterprises,' organised by the Mangalore-Manipal chapter of Public Relations Society of India (PRSI), here on Tuesday evening.

He said the roads and berths in the port are cleaned regularly.

Water is being sprinkled in the port premises to curb pollution caused due to iron ore dust.

It is compulsory for the trucks to cover iron ore with tarpaulin.

Personal protective equipment, including nose masks, have been provided to all those working in the port area.

Mr Tamilvanan hoped that all these measures would help curb iron ore dust pollution in the vicinity of the port.

"Productivity should not be at the cost of people. The port administration is committed to take up all possible means to mitigate any possible pollution, causing threat to environment," he added.
