Piracy `53 pc of PC software in Asia-Pacific pirated' Our Bureau
Hyderabad , May 18 FIFTY-three per cent of the software installed on personal computers in the Asia-Pacific region was pirated in 2004. While this was the same level as witnessed in 2003, the losses due to software piracy increased from $7.5 billion to $8 billion. A global software piracy study released on Wednesday by Business Software Alliance, the international association of software developers, indicates that software piracy continues to be a major challenge worldwide. The study was conducted by the research firm International Data Corporation. The BSA President and CEO, Mr Robert Holleyman, said in a statement, "Worldwide, one out of every three copies of software in use today has been obtained illegally. "These losses have a profound economic impact in countries around the world. "Every copy of software used without proper licensing costs tax revenue, jobs and growth opportunities for burgeoning software markets."
