Pilot housing scheme for poor launched in AP

THE State Government has launched a pilot housing scheme - Rajiv Gruha Kalpa - following the State Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajashekhara Reddy's announcement in January.The Minister for Major Irrigation, Mr Ponnala Laxmaiah, launched the project at Laxmiguda in Rajendranagar municipality of Rangareddy district on Wednesday.

The Minister said that owning a house within the precincts of the city surroundings has always been a dream for the poor. This project is designed to address such people.

About 6.60 lakh weaker section houses were sanctioned throughout the State by creating 33 lakh mandays for the labourers.

The Minister for Mines and Geology, Ms P. Sabitha Indira Reddy, said that the idea of providing houses to the poor slum dwellers cropped up following agitations by them at district collectorates at Hyderabad and Rangareddy. This was also felt necessary as poor people are migrating to the State capital in search of employment.
